Healing Through Integration
About
Misty
Misty Tafao is passionate about coming alongside others on their journey of healing. She meets her clients exactly where they are and guides them through understanding more about themselves, their story and experiences, and helps them to overcome the areas of their life that they feel stuck. With her own history of trauma and addiction, Misty understands what it is like to struggle with painful memories, thoughts, emotions, and harmful behaviors.
Misty is currently licensed in the states of Oklahoma and Virginia. She graduated with a Bachelors of Human Services with a minor in Psychological Studies from Wayland Baptist University and with her Masters of Substance Abuse Studies from the University of Central Oklahoma. She is a certified EMDR therapist and EMDRIA-approved Consultant. Misty is currently working on a graduate certificate for Biblical Spiritual Formation and Discipleship through Moody Bible Institute.
She has been counseling others in various settings for more than a decade. Though after learning about the impact of trauma on the mind and body and how it is the root of many of our issues today, she developed a passion for helping others find healing from trauma and transform their lives. She believes that the integration of the body, soul, and spirit into the healing process is essential. Misty seeks to incorporate all parts of our being into the treatment process. In addition to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, she uses a number of different modalities to address trauma including EMDR therapy, Polyvagal and Attachment theory, Somatic work, Parts work, Sand tray, and nature informed therapy. She also founded and directs the Beauty for Ashes Healing Retreat, which is a multi-day trauma retreat for Christian women. Misty loves Jesus radically and wants others to experience the freedom that is found through Him alone.
She is a combat veteran of the U.S. Army and is married to an active duty soldier that is preparing for retirement. Together, they have four children ranging from the ages of 23 to 11 years old. In her spare time, she loves to travel, explore the outdoors, spend time with family and friends, try new foods, drink tea, read a good book, and garden.
